About

A PDF editor that works on the real text.

GenPDF is a free, browser-based PDF editor that changes the text already in a PDF, in the document's own font when the file contains it, with full Arabic support. Editing never uploads the file; scanned pages are read on our server only after you agree.

What GenPDF is

GenPDF is a PDF editor on the web. Click a line of text and change it. Sign, fill in forms, highlight, redact, merge, split, compress and reorder pages. Turn a PDF into a Word document or into pictures, and Word, Excel, PowerPoint or pictures into a PDF.

Most of this is done by a PDF engine that runs in your browser, on your device. A few jobs need our servers: reading the text on scanned pages, converting office files, and editing for a browser that cannot run the engine. The Security page says which, and what is sent.

Why we built it

Editing the words of a PDF is hard to get right, and harder in Arabic and other right-to-left scripts, where letters must join and words must keep their order. We wanted a tool that edits the text that is really in the file, in the language of the person using it, without asking them to upload their documents.

GenPDF speaks English, French, Arabic, German, Spanish and Portuguese, and the whole interface turns right to left in Arabic.

What we hold to

  • Your files stay with you

Editing runs on your device. When a job does need our server, the editor asks first, and we say what is sent.

  • Honest pricing

Opening and editing are free, with no account, and the free plan includes a few downloads a day. Paid plans lift that limit and pay for the work our servers do: scanned pages read, office files converted and AI.

  • Plain words

The privacy, security and refund pages say what the app does, in plain words, and not more.
