In detail
Signing a PDF online: what you get and what you don't
Three ways to make your signature
Draw it with a mouse, a pen or your finger on the signature pad. Or type your name and pick a handwriting style; an Arabic name is written in an Arabic handwriting face. Or upload a photo or scan of your real signature: the white paper around it is made see-through, so only the ink lands on the page.
Choose black or blue ink, then place the signature on the page. Drag it onto the line, resize it, and put it on as many pages as the document needs.
Date, initials and the rest
Add the date, your initials or a place name as ordinary text beside the signature with Add text, and use Stamp for a stamp such as Approved or Paid with today's date. Everything can be moved or undone until you download.
What a signature here is, and is not
GenPDF places a picture of your signature in the PDF, like signing a printed page. It does not add a digital certificate, an identity check or an audit trail. Many everyday documents accept a signature like this, but whether yours is enough depends on the document and the law where you are. If a document asks for a certified digital signature, use the service it names.
Your signature stays yours
Signing runs in your browser: the PDF is not uploaded and your signature is never sent to us. By default nothing is kept. If you tick “Remember on this device”, your browser keeps the signature so you can place it again next time, and Forget removes it.

Questions
Sign PDF: questions and answers
Is this a certificate-based digital signature?
No. It is a simple electronic signature: a picture of your signature placed in the PDF, like signing a printed page, with no digital certificate. Many everyday documents accept it, but whether it is enough depends on the document and the law where you are; if a document asks for a certified digital signature, use the service it names.
How do I sign a PDF on my phone?
Open the PDF in your phone's browser, choose Sign, draw your signature with your finger, place it on the line and download the PDF. No app and no account needed.
Can I sign several pages?
Yes. Place your signature on as many pages as you need before you download.
Is my signature kept?
Not by us: it is never sent to our server. Only if you tick “Remember on this device” does your browser keep it so you can place it again next time, and Forget removes it.
Can I use a photo of my handwritten signature?
Yes. Choose Upload and pick a photo or scan of it. The white paper around the ink is made see-through, so only the signature is placed.
Can I sign in Arabic?
Yes. Type your name in Arabic and it is written in an Arabic handwriting face, or draw it, or upload a picture of it.
How do I ask someone else to sign?
Sign in with an account whose email address is confirmed, then in the editor choose File, then Request signatures…, add one to five signers and send. Each signs in their browser with no account, the PDF is encrypted in yours, and the finished file gets an audit page with the times. 3 requests a month on the free plan, 50 with Pro or a 7-day pass. It is a simple electronic signature too.
Can I add the date next to my signature?
Yes. Use Add text to type the date beside it, or Stamp to add a stamp with today's date.
Do I need an account to sign a PDF?
No. Signing needs no account: choose a PDF, sign it and download it. The free plan includes 3 signed-PDF downloads a day; Pro or a 7-day pass has no limit. Nothing has to be created or installed first.
